Backup Your Energy with a Home Battery System

Protect your home against power outages

Home battery systems provide a great opportunity for households to better utilize their solar energy system’s production (or reduce pricing by storing cheaper energy from the grid). Take the next step in energy independence by storing and shifting power to times when more is consumed and prices are at their peak, reducing the impact of high-cost energy from the utility.

WHAT IS AN ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM?

Energy storage is the next wave of opportunity for customers to take control of their energy costs as California’s Investor-Owned Utilities continue to change the equation. The next big change will see the utilities shifting peak pricing (the most expensive energy rate) to later in the day to capture more profits from customers. The future costs of electricity are going to shift to evenings when everyone is coming home from work, feeding their families, charging electric vehicles, etc. Though there are some intermediate protections, this is also positioned to erode the value of new solar energy systems without a home battery.

Energy Shift Systems™ by SolarTech provide the ability to store cheaper energy for use during peak periods when the utilities charge the most for electricity. The energy you store can come from either your solar energy system or can be purchased from the grid when their prices are cheaper (or both). These energy storage systems are designed to charge/discharge daily and have a warrantied lifespan of 10-25 years. While these systems provide the best ROI for battery systems, they are limited in their backup capabilities.

  • Use stored energy from your battery to offset high-priced peak periods energy rates.
  • Store backup energy for critical loads in the event of a blackout.
  • Energy storage is eligible for the Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC).
  • Eligible for California’s Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP). *This rebate is limited.

REBATES & INCENTIVES FOR HOME BATTERY SYSTEMS

Rebates and incentives are still available for installing a home battery system. Particularly, the most attractive incentive right now is California’s Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP). Adding this incentive, on top of the 30% federal tax credit, can nearly eliminate the cost of installing energy storage. The SGIP rebate, however, is highly competitive with limited funding. Be very wary of any contractor who “guarantees” the SGIP rebate, as the program is expected to go to a lottery (meaning there is no first-come-first-served system).
