WHY SOLARTECH

Why Choose SolarTech for Your Solar Needs

SDG&E Rate Expertise

SDG&E customers pay an average of $0.457/kWh – 172% above the national average. New solar customers are automatically enrolled in the EVTOU5 rate plan, where summer on-peak electricity costs $0.71106/kWh between 4 and 9pm. We design every Encinitas system around that rate structure, sizing and orienting panels to maximize production during the hours that count most on your bill. SDG&E rates have risen 6 to 8% per year historically – solar locks in your production cost while grid prices keep climbing.

NEM 3.0 + Battery Storage

Under SDG&E’s Solar Billing Plan, solar energy exported to the grid earns roughly $0.05 to $0.08/kWh at midday – while importing power during the 4 to 9pm peak costs $0.71106/kWh. Pairing your solar system with a home battery closes that gap: store your midday solar production, then use it during peak hours instead of buying from the grid at peak rates. Explore energy storage options to see how battery storage changes the economics of solar in the SDG&E territory.

25-Year Track Record

SolarTech has completed 15,000+ installations since 2001 and holds a 4.7-star Google rating based on 800+ reviews. We are a Tesla Powerwall Certified Installer and Maxeon Preferred Partner, and we back every installation with a 25-year workmanship warranty. That track record means your system is designed, installed, and supported by a team that will still be here when your warranty matters.

Coastal Climate Advantage

Encinitas averages 72°F in summer – well below the 90 to 105°F seen in inland SDG&E cities like El Cajon and Santee. Solar panels lose output as temperatures climb above 77°F, so Encinitas panels operate at or near rated efficiency throughout the warm season. With 263 sunny days per year and 5.7 peak sun hours per day, the coastal climate is one of the best solar environments in San Diego County.

Solar Incentives

Encinitas Solar Incentives You Qualify For

The financial picture for solar in Encinitas has changed in 2026. Here is what is actually available – and what is not.

California Property Tax Exclusion - Primary Incentive (Expires January 2027)

California exempts residential solar installations from property tax reassessment under Revenue and Taxation Code Section 73. A $20,000 solar system adds nothing to your annual property tax bill. This exclusion expires January 1, 2027, making 2026 the last full year to qualify. For most Encinitas homeowners, this is the primary financial incentive available right now – and it creates genuine urgency for installations completed before the deadline.

Lease and PPA: Section 48E Through Mid-2026

Federal solar tax incentives for homeowner cash and loan purchases were eliminated effective January 1, 2026. However, solar leases and power purchase agreements still qualify via the Section 48E commercial tax credit, which applies to installer-owned systems with a construction start before July 4, 2026. Installers pass those savings through to homeowners in the form of lower lease payments. If a lease or PPA fits your situation, timing matters. See our California solar incentives guide for a full breakdown of what is and is not available in 2026.

Income-Qualified Programs

Encinitas is a higher-income community, and most homeowners do not qualify for income-restricted programs like DAC-SASH or RSSE. If your household income falls under 80% of area median income, you may be eligible to join the RSSE waitlist – but this applies to a small fraction of Encinitas homeowners.

How We Work

Our Solar Installation Process

From consultation to activation, we handle every step so you don’t have to.
01

Free Consultation

We review your electricity bills, roof condition, shading profile, and energy goals. Encinitas homes vary by neighborhood – coastal lots in Leucadia and Cardiff face different shading and orientation considerations than homes in inland Olivenhain. We account for all of it and walk away with a site-specific production estimate before recommending a system size. No pressure, no obligation.

02

Custom System Design

Your system is sized and designed for your specific roof, your SDG&E usage history, and the EVTOU5 rate tier structure. We model production using local solar data that already accounts for Encinitas’s marine layer – so your savings estimate reflects real coastal conditions, not inland assumptions.

03

Permitting & Approvals

The City of Encinitas participates in the SolarAPP+ online permitting program, which provides instant permit approval for most residential solar systems. The SolarAPP+ platform fee is $25 – the lowest permit cost of any city we serve in San Diego County. City inspections are available as soon as the next business day when requested by 3pm the prior day. Note: properties in the Coastal Bluff Overlay Zone are not eligible for SolarAPP+ and require additional review.

04

Professional Installation

Our licensed crew installs your system according to the approved design. Most residential installations in Encinitas are completed in one to two days. We clean up completely and walk you through the system before we leave.

05

Inspection & Activation

We submit your SDG&E Fast Track interconnection application. Residential systems under 30 kW typically receive SDG&E approval in under 5 business days ($132 interconnection fee). Once approved, your system is activated and you begin generating power and building savings.

Quality Solar Panel Options for Encinitas Properties

Premium Solar Panels

Encinitas receives 5.7 peak sun hours per day on an annual average basis. That figure is calculated from NREL meteorological data that already accounts for the marine layer – the morning fog typical of coastal San Diego from May through August. The marine layer generally clears by 9 to 11am each day, and afternoon production from noon onward is consistently strong. There is no additional fog discount to apply: 5.7 hours is the real coastal number, and 263 sunny days per year gives Encinitas one of the strongest annual solar resources on the San Diego County coast.

Battery Storage

Solar panels lose approximately 0.3 to 0.5% of output per degree Celsius above 25°C (77°F). Inland SDG&E cities routinely reach 95 to 105°F in summer, creating meaningful efficiency losses during peak production hours. Encinitas rarely exceeds 80°F. That coastal cooling means your panels operate at or near rated output all summer – producing more energy relative to their nameplate rating than the same panels would in a hotter location.

A 6kW system costs $14,654, an 8kW system costs $19,539, and a 10kW system costs $24,424 before incentives; the average Encinitas system runs $18,244 with a 7.35-year payback and $109,592 in estimated 25-year savings at current SDG&E rates. California’s property tax exclusion – which expires January 1, 2027 – is the primary financial incentive for Encinitas homeowners this year.

Encinitas receives 5.7 peak sun hours per day – a figure already calculated using NREL meteorological data that accounts for the marine layer, so no additional fog discount applies. Morning clouds typically clear by 9 to 11am and afternoon production is consistently strong; Encinitas’s 72°F average summer temperature also means panels operate at or near rated efficiency all season.

Yes – SDG&E customers pay an average of $0.457/kWh, which is 172% above the national average, and summer on-peak electricity on the EVTOU5 plan reaches $0.71106/kWh. At those rates, the average Encinitas system pays back in 7.35 years and delivers an estimated $109,592 in 25-year savings.

New solar customers are automatically enrolled in SDG&E’s EVTOU5 plan, which charges $0.71106/kWh during summer on-peak hours (4 to 9pm) and credits solar exports at only $0.05 to $0.08/kWh at midday. A home battery captures midday solar production and deploys it during peak hours instead – converting a 14:1 price gap into direct savings rather than low-value grid exports.
