WHY SOLARTECH

Why Choose SolarTech for Your Solar Needs

Every Alpine solar installation is custom-designed for your home, your roof, and your SDG&E energy usage.

SDG&E Charges Alpine Homeowners 147% Above the National Average

SDG&E’s average residential rate hit 41.5 cents per kWh in 2026 – 147% above the national average of 16.8 cents. Peak TOU rates climb to 65 cents per kWh in the evening hours when you draw most of your power. With SDG&E rates rising roughly 6% per year, a system sized to your actual usage stops that compounding before it compounds further.

Fire Country Backup Power During SDG&E Shutoffs

Alpine sits in SDG&E’s East County high fire-hazard zone, where Public Safety Power Shutoffs can cut grid power for 24-48 hours or more during fire weather. Solar paired with battery storage keeps your refrigerator, lights, and essential systems running when the grid goes down. Alpine homeowners in fire-risk zones may also qualify for SGIP’s Equity Resiliency tier – a significantly higher battery rebate specifically for high fire-risk areas.

Equipment Selected for East County's Climate

We install premium panels from Maxeon, REC, and Q CELLS paired with battery storage from Tesla Powerwall and Enphase. Alpine averages 6.4 peak sun hours per day and 274 sunny days per year – among the best solar resources in all of Southern California. We select panels engineered for high-temperature performance to maintain efficiency through East County’s hot, dry summers.

Proven Track Record

Over 15,000 installations across California and Arizona since 2001. 4.7-star Google rating with 800+ reviews. SolarTech is a Tesla Powerwall Certified Installer and Maxeon Preferred Partner – factory-authorized for the equipment that performs best in SDG&E territory.

Solar Incentives

Alpine Solar Incentives You Qualify For

Alpine homeowners have access to California state incentives – including programs specifically designed for high fire-risk communities – that can significantly offset the cost of solar and battery storage.

SGIP Battery Rebate - Including Equity Resiliency

California’s Self-Generation Incentive Program pays $1.10/Wh for battery storage under the standard tier – that’s up to $11,000 back on a 10 kWh battery. Because Alpine is in an SDG&E high fire-risk zone, you may qualify for the Equity Resiliency tier, which pays significantly more for paired solar and storage. SolarTech assesses your eligibility during the free consultation.

Property Tax Exclusion

Your solar system is exempt from California property tax reassessment. On a $27,000 Alpine installation, that’s real tax savings every year the exclusion holds. Expires January 1, 2027 – installations completed before then lock in this exemption permanently.

NEM 3.0 + Battery Strategy

SDG&E switched to the Net Billing Tariff (NEM 3.0) in April 2023. Export credits now run around $0.08/kWh during off-peak hours – while you pay $0.415/kWh for grid power on average, and up to $0.65/kWh at peak. A battery stores your midday solar production for use during evening peak hours, capturing 8x more value than exporting to the grid. Battery storage is the right strategy for Alpine homeowners under NEM 3.0.

Lease or PPA Options

The federal 30% homeowner tax credit was eliminated in January 2026. Through a lease or PPA, the installer claims the Section 48E credit and passes the savings to you through lower monthly payments. Zero-down solar financing means you start saving on SDG&E bills from day one without a large upfront investment.

Income-Qualified Programs

Income-eligible Alpine homeowners may access DAC-SASH (up to $15,000 in solar rebates) or the RSSE program (up to $21,700 for solar plus $11,000 for battery storage), potentially covering most or all installation costs.

How We Work

Our Solar Installation Process

From consultation to activation, we handle every step so you don’t have to.
01

Free Consultation

We review your SDG&E bills, assess your roof condition and sun exposure, and design a system sized for your actual usage. You get a detailed proposal with system size, expected production, payback timeline, and battery sizing for both PSPS backup and NEM 3.0 peak-hour optimization.

02

Custom System Design

Our engineers design your system for Alpine’s 6.4 peak sun hours per day and East County’s hot summers. For homeowners with larger lots – common in Alpine’s rural and semi-rural areas – we evaluate ground-mount options where roof orientation limits production.

03

Permitting & Approvals

Alpine is unincorporated San Diego County, so permits are pulled through the County of San Diego’s SDPermits.org portal, which participates in SolarAPP+ for fast-track residential solar approvals. The county permit fee is approximately $448 (California’s AB 1124 statutory cap for residential solar PV). We handle all documentation, structural engineering, and electrical plans.

04

Professional Installation

Our licensed technicians install your system with minimal disruption, typically completing the work in 1-3 days. Tier-1 panels with 25+ year manufacturer warranties, paired with battery storage sized for your PSPS backup needs.

05

Inspection & Activation

After passing county inspection, we submit your interconnection application to SDG&E. Total timeline from permit to Permission to Operate: typically 4-8 weeks, including SDG&E’s interconnection queue.

Quality Solar Panel Options for Alpine Properties

Premium Solar Panels

High-efficiency panels from Maxeon, REC, and Q CELLS – selected for Alpine’s 6.4 peak sun hours per day and 274 sunny days per year. At 6.4 peak sun hours, Alpine produces significantly more solar energy per system than coastal San Diego communities. Summer temperatures in the 85-95°F range can reduce panel efficiency slightly, which is why we source panels with strong high-temperature performance ratings. A typical 10-11 kW system in Alpine runs $26,973 before incentives, with a 7.54-year payback and $167,806 in projected 25-year savings at current SDG&E rates.

Battery Storage

Essential under NEM 3.0 and for PSPS protection. Store midday solar for evening use when SDG&E charges up to $0.65/kWh, instead of exporting at $0.08/kWh off-peak rates. For fire-zone homeowners, battery storage also provides critical backup during SDG&E shutoffs. Compare battery storage options to find the right capacity for your usage and backup needs. We install Tesla Powerwall 3 and Enphase – both qualify for SGIP rebates that can significantly offset the cost of adding storage.

A typical Alpine home needs a 10-11 kW system, which runs $26,973 before incentives, with a 7.54-year payback and $167,806 in projected 25-year savings at current SDG&E rates. California’s SGIP battery rebate (up to $11,000) and property tax exclusion – expiring January 2027 – meaningfully reduce your net cost.

Yes – Alpine averages 6.4 peak sun hours per day and SDG&E charges 41.5 cents per kWh, 147% above the national average. At current SDG&E rates, a typical Alpine system has a 7.54-year payback and generates $167,806 in projected 25-year savings.

SDG&E activates Public Safety Power Shutoffs in East County fire-risk areas including Alpine, cutting power for hours or days during fire weather. Battery storage keeps your home running during shutoffs, and Alpine may qualify for SGIP’s Equity Resiliency tier – an enhanced rebate that pays significantly more than the standard rate for fire-risk areas.

SDG&E switched to the Net Billing Tariff (NEM 3.0) in April 2023. New solar customers earn export credits at variable rates averaging around $0.08/kWh off-peak – well below the $0.415/kWh average retail rate. Battery storage lets you use your own power at peak hours (up to $0.65/kWh) instead of exporting at a fraction of what you’d pay to import.
